Grandchildren are the frosting!

The best way I can describe being a grandparent is:
if having children is the cake, then having grandchildren is the frosting!

The Bible says in Matthew 6:21
"For where your treasure is, There will your heart be also."
I can say a hearty amen to that because one of my favorite places to be
is with my grandchildren - my treasures.

I do not take lightly the responsibility of passing on my faith
as a living heritage to my grandchildren.

“Take heed to yourself, diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart…and teach them to your children and your grandchildren” (Deuteronomy 4:9).

Thank You, Jesus, for this wonderful blessing of being a grandmother!

So, You Want To Be Amish?

My family recently spent a couple of days in Berlin, Ohio. This little town is one of my favorite places to visit. We enjoyed our stay amid the beautiful scenery while listening for the clip-clop of horse drawn buggies. I felt myself unwinding as soon as we arrived.  It felt so Gut - "Good"
We always stay at the Berlin Grande Hotel.  Here you will find a welcoming staff & immaculate rooms ... a gem in the heart of Amish country.   http://www.berlingrandehotel.com/
There are more Berlin shops than you can possibly cover in one days time. We really enjoyed the Holmes County Flea Market.  http://holmesfleamarket.com/

Another must visit is Heini's Cheese House.
They offer free samples of more cheese varieties than I could imagine.
The grandkids favorite was chocolate. You can also watch cheese being made.
We enjoyed a wonderful meal at Boyd & Wurthmann.  This restaurant is touted as "Where the locals eat." Yum! The potato salad was the best I've ever had. Everyone had dessert ... Amish baking at its finest.  http://www.boydandwurthmann.com/

I also recommend The Farmstead Restaurant ... and this Hillbilly knows food fer sure! They offer a daily hot buffet & offer family style meals.  https://www.facebook.com/#!/BerlinFarmsteadRestaurant?fref=ts
Our favorite attraction was not open for the season yet. We'll be back soon to enjoy the Rolling Ridge Animal Park.  http://www.visitrollingridge.com/

Every time my family visits Berlin, we discuss what it would be like to be Amish. There is an appeal to the simple life I think we all feel. There are days when I’m all for separating myself from the rest of society. The big question: would I enjoy it? The grass is always greener.

Steak N Shake

This hillbilly had her first visit to Steak N Shake ... umm, Yum!

Hillbilly hubby starts with a cherry milkshake whilst looking over the menu.

Grandson has decided on the macaroni & cheese.
All day Saturday and Sunday get one Free Kids Plate for every $8 spent.
Awesome!

I had the Chicago-Style Steak Frank 'n Fries
Topped with mustard, diced onions, sweet pickle relish, tomato slices,
pickle slice, and sport peppers. Again ... Yum!

The only downside?
Steak N Shake is over an hour away
in Parkersburg, West Virginia. I'm hoping there are more
locations to come, because I have fallen in love!
